Overview
SunGard provides system database administration for Oracle & Microsoft SQL databases. This service alleviates of the burden associated with basic system database administration, and instead offers assurance of the high performance levels needed to support high-power, client-facing or internal databases. This service is intended for clients that require proactive management and monitoring of database environments, to ensure its availability and performance.
Features
- Installation & upgrade of database server and application tools
- Storage and space allocation, controlling space used on database server for example file system and table space, and quotas within the database
- Security, controlling access to database and grants on database objects
- Performance/Tuning, both server and database; Identifying improvements to DBMS or OS maintenance levels, DBMS or OS parameters, physical resources (memory, CPU, disk), or utilisation patterns
- Monitoring via eHealth Application Insight Module (AIM)
- Reporting of performance, memory utilisation and transaction throughput and queuing
- Pro-active mitigation of potentially service impacting incidents
- Responding to alerts generated by availability monitoring
- Provide regular assessment of priority security patch updates
- 24/7 Database Monitoring to identify potential problems before they become issues
- 24/7 monitoring of database system files for errors and process failures
Benefits
The Database is often the heart of modern transactional e-commerce website or internal production IT systems. Slow response, or complete failure to respond, by a crucial database can lead to seriously affected Information Availability. This service provides proactive management and monitoring of database environments, to ensure its availability and performance.
Options
Database backup management, to ensure both logical and physical backups of database (requires use of SunGard’s Vaulting Services).
Service requirements
To support the successful implementation and support of production services, SunGard will work with the customer in qualifying and providing the following information:
- The customer must qualify software maintenance agreements for 24x7, 4-hour response vendor support for the Database software being installed and supported. The customer will also need to provide a letter of agency for the Database software support assuming SunGard will be empowered to call the support provider on behalf of the customer
- The customer is responsible for the testing of all software updates identified as available for installation as part of this service before installation on the live server. This gives the customer the opportunity to qualify likely impact on the availability of installed software
