Managed Internet Bandwidth

High capacity, low latency Internet connectivity to its customers via its own fully resilient Internet backbone network

Overview
SunGard provides high capacity, low latency Internet connectivity to its customers via its own fully resilient Internet backbone network. SunGard connects to, and takes full Internet routing tables from multiple Tier 1 ISP backbones, both in the UK and in the US. In addition, SunGard has local peering both in the UK, via London Internet eXchange (LINX), and in the US (dual network access points). All of SunGard’s connected bandwidth is aggregated into our own AS (Autonomous System) which then uses route optimisation to select the most appropriate connection path.

In the UK, SunGard connects directly with the major Global and European internet backbones. This ensures SunGard customers enjoy excellent European connectivity together with strong Global visibility. In the UK, SunGard’s LTC hosting centre currently has dual Gigabit circuits, in to both Colt and AboveNet. SunGard TC2 has dual Gigabit Ethernet connections into Level 3 and Cogent. TC3 is connected by dual Gigabit connections to easynet and Cogent, while TC4 has a Gigabit link to Affiniti. Additional connectivity and resilience is provided through SunGard’s international communications backbone V*Net™, which has diverse connections to SunGard in the USA, via its Philadelphia and Atlanta hosting centres.

In the London area, SunGard’s Metropolitan Area Network supports the fully resilient architecture between sites.

SunGard’s routing infrastructure is structured in a fully resilient ‘Core-Distribution-layer’ model, providing high-capacity connectivity to the Internet. It deploys Juniper M-series routers for the BGP4-based layers. For resiliency and scalability, distribution and handover into a customer’s solution is provided via dual Fast-Ethernet feeds.

Features

  • Resilient infrastructure with multiple upstream providers
  • Handover via dual 100 Mbps Ethernet feeds, in active/passive using VRRP for the Default Gateway address
  • Fixed or Burstable bandwidth
  • 99.99% Internet Access SLA
  • Provider Assigned (PA) IP addresses (subject to standard RIPE application & justification procedures)
  • Fastest access to Internet source requested, including using least hop routing, where applicable.

Benefits
Our multi-homed Internet solution provides direct access to the world’s leading Internet backbone providers thereby improving application performance and protecting from backbone failures and routing issues. High capacity, low latency connectivity providing the ultimate solution in flexibility and scalability for customers requiring a presence on the Internet.

Options
Bursting option allowing up to 4 times the standard committed bandwidth. Bandwidth reporting is available around-the-clock via SunGard’s customer portal, providing details such as Network Availability and 95th percentile (if subscribing to a Burstable service).

Service requirements
Customers of Managed Internet bandwidth must adhere to SunGard’s Internet Services Acceptable Use Policy, which for example prohibits criminal activity, offensive content, and SPAM.
