Overview
The Managed Load Balancing Service provides intelligent load balancing and high availability for Application, Database, Web, and Storage related server farms.
The local load balancing is achieved using F5 or Cisco devices and global load balancing is achieved using the DNS servers. To maximise the user experience, regardless of the application or service, the local load balancer will choose the best responding servers. It allows servers to reply directly back to users, improving throughput and performance. In addition, a variety of persistence features allow the load balancer, through multiple connections, to maintain a more robust session between users and servers. The result is a consistent, high-quality experience for all users.
Features
- Increased availability and improved performance by directing traffic to multiple local Web servers
- Ensures that site visitors are only ever sent to accessible web sites
- Load can be spread across multiple sites and shared in a ratio defined by the customer
- Improved user productivity and client retention by increasing the speed at which users can access Internet sites, database servers, application servers, and VPN terminators
- Customisable, intelligent traffic management for both local, and geographically diverse applications supporting virtually all TCP- and UDP-based services, with or without persistency (“sticky connections”)
- Access to SunGard’s broad, multi-vendor technical expertise and proven methodologies for IT support and maintenance.
Benefits
- Higher availability, better performance and faster servers lead to satisfied customers
- Tighter control over user access by defining policies
- Load balancing based on server capabilities.
Options
- High availability: Dual paired load balancers, providing seamless and automatic failover, and thereby maintaining the user experience regardless of a potential appliance failure
- SSL Acceleration: Increased system performance by offloading CPU-draining SSL encryption/decryption from Web servers and freeing them to serve more content
- Global Load balancing: Load balancing between multiple sites to achieve; quality of service, increased performance or for disaster recovery
