Overview
SunGard's managed backup service (vaulting solution) is a fully managed enterprise class disk-to-disk based off-site backup service that provides fast backups, tiered storage, maximum data protection and rapid restore for a wide variety of applications, databases and operating systems.
All data is initially backed up to disk at the primary vault location, then copied across SunGard’s metropolitan area network ScaleNet to the off-site vault location, essentially providing a ‘Backup of the backup’ (this would be requested automatically during a restore if data in the primary vault for some reason were unavailable). Once the data is at the off site location it is migrated from the initial disk storage to the selected storage pool at the primary site.
