Demand for Workplace Recovery Moves Up UK Businesses Agenda

SunGard sees demand for Dedicated Workplace Recovery increase by 370% in the past year as organisations plan for business disruptions in 2012

London, UK – Wednesday 7th December 2011:  SunGard Availability Services, the pioneer and leading provider of Information Availability and business continuity services, highlights today the growing demand for dedicated workplace recovery as the impact of disruption returns to the minds of businesses today. With business disruptions reportedly increasing, organisations are realising the need to have their own dedicated, exclusive resource that helps ensure Information Availability to their customers and their own business.

Amidst a changing business environment, SunGard has seen a year-on-year growth of 370 per cent for Dedicated Workplace Recovery as organisations respond to the business interruption challenges presented to them for the coming years to ensure availability. The increased demand also comes as businesses look to refine their strategies ahead of a number of potentially disruptive events in 2012. Recent public sector strikes have highlighted the problems caused by major disruptions across London, with 2012 set to be an even more challenging year.

The London Assembly study recently estimated passengers spent an extra 6.5 million hours on the Tube in 2010/11 because of increased delays – without the task of having to cope with the Olympics and carrying passengers to and from the world’s largest sporting event. Coupled with preparations around the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, further problems for ill prepared businesses is inevitable.

Additionally, with the technology now in place to support the home environment as a legitimate extension of the office, SunGard’s Dedicated Recover Anywhere offering keeps staff productive even when events prevent them getting to work. As the latest extension to its innovative ‘people-recovery’ portfolio, Dedicated Recovery Anywhere helps mitigate against a wider range of disruptions that prevent staff from journeying to their usual place of work. Large scale disruptions typically lead to an upsurge in requests for recovery support, so businesses choosing a dedicated recovery model have greater flexibility to optimise their operational availability.

“With businesses expecting their whole ecosystem to be ‘always on’, the ability to recover, identify and manage priority workers has never been more important,” says Keith Tilley, managing director UK and executive vice president Europe, SunGard Availability Services. “The growth in SunGard’s Dedicated Recovery offering shows organisations want the peace of mind to know they remain available come what may.”
