Occasionally an incident occurs that is on such a huge scale that its name becomes synonymous with disaster. In December 2005, a new name entered this category: Buncefield. The headquarters building of software and IT services company Northgate Information Solutions suffered extensive blast damage in the Buncefield Oil Depot explosion just three weeks before the company’s Christmas payroll run. Missing this crucial deadline would cause serious difficulty for the citizens of four London boroughs and staff of 186 payroll clients. Northgate embarked on what is believed to be the largest and most complex recovery project ever undertaken.
